스페이스 톤은 제15회 서울국제조각페스타에 한국 현대조각의 원로 조각가 한진섭 작가와 함께 참여했다. 전시명 「형태에 깃든 온기」는 차갑고 무겁게만 여겨지기 쉬운 석조 조각에서 따뜻함과 치유의 감정이 전해질 수 있도록 기획되었다.
스페이스 톤은 김대건 신부 성상 제작으로 큰 주목을 받은 작가의 또 다른 면모에 집중했다. 작고 귀여운 동물 조각, 누구나 쉬어갈 수 있는 의자, 실생활에 활용 가능한 조명 등 한진섭 작가의 다채로운 작품 세계를 폭넓게 보여주는 데 초점을 맞춘 것이다.
또한, 스페이스 톤이 추구하는 ‘일상에서의 조각’을 구현하기 위해 거울, 행잉 조명, 가벽, 벽면 타공 등 연출 요소를 극대화했다. 부스 한 면을 가득 채운 거울은 한정된 공간을 시각적으로 확장시키며, 작품이 중첩되어 보이는 효과로 공간에 풍부함을 더한다. 한지 마감의 행잉 조명은 은은하고 동양적인 분위기를 자아내며 조명 아래 자리한 작품들에게 따스한 온도를 덧입힌다. 무심히 놓인 듯한 의자들은 돌림판 장치를 통해 육중한 몸체가 회전하는 움직임을 만들어 관객에게 ‘쉼’과 동시에 ‘재미’를 건넨다.
스페이스 톤은 한정된 시공간에서 강조되는 ‘개방감’ 대신 벽을 추가해 ‘공간감’을 조성했다. 관객의 부스 방문이 마치 실내로 들어서는 듯한 장면을 만들고, 그 벽에 마련한 작은 뷰홀(view hole)에 작가의 시그니처 중 하나인 호랑이를 배치해 담 너머로 부스 안을 들여다보는 듯한 시선을 연출한다. 호랑이의 시선이 닿는 곳에는 2026년 병오년(丙午年)의 상징인 말이 웃음짓고 있다. 가벽에 설치된 10점의 부조 작품은 작가가 꾸준히 표현해 온 어린아이들의 천진한 형상이며, 그 뒤로 따뜻한 조도의 빛이 스며나오도록 구성해 전시가 말하는 ‘온기’를 조용히 완성한다.
부스 안으로 한 걸음 더 깊이 들어선 관객은 거울 앞에서 자연스럽게 자신의 모습을 확인하다가, 의자에 걸터앉은 작은 하마를 발견하게 된다. 함께 사진을 찍자고 권하는 듯한 이 하마는 작가의 작품 세계에 가족으로 자주 등장해 온 ‘하마 가족’을 미니어처로 축약한 존재다.
조각의 물성과 조명의 따뜻함이 교차하는 이 부스에서 관객은 조각을 ‘보는 일’을 넘어, 일상에 스며드는 감각으로 ‘경험’하게 된다. 스페이스 톤은 그렇게 ‘형태에 깃든 온기’가 각자의 기억에 조용히 머무는 순간을 제안한다.

Space Tone participated in the 15th Seoul International Sculpture Festa together with Han Jin Sub, a venerable figure in Korean contemporary sculpture. Titled 「Warmth Held in Form」, the presentation was conceived to reveal how stone sculpture, often perceived as cold and heavy, can instead convey warmth and a quiet sense of healing.
Focusing on another facet of an artist widely recognized for his religious works, including sculptures of Father Andrew Kim Taegon, Space Tone highlighted the breadth of Han’s practice: small and endearing animal sculptures, chairs designed as places of rest for anyone, and hanging light works that can be used in everyday life.
To embody Space Tone’s ongoing pursuit of “sculpture in everyday life,” the booth amplified scenographic elements such as mirrors, hanging lights, partition walls, and a viewing hole. A full-height mirror spanning one side of the booth visually expands the limited space, enriching the scene as artworks appear layered and multiplied. Hanging lamps, finished with hanji, traditional Korean paper, cast an understated, East Asian mood, wrapping the works beneath them in a gentle warmth. Chairs placed with an air of casualness are set on turntable mechanisms, where their massive bodies rotate, offering visitors both rest and a playful moment.
Rather than relying on the “openness” typically emphasized in a confined fair setting, Space Tone added a wall to create a stronger sense of “interiority”, making the entry feel like stepping into a room. A small view hole punctures the wall, where one of the artist’s signature tigers is positioned to suggest a gaze peering over a fence into the booth. Where the tiger’s eyes land, a smiling horse, a symbol of the year 2026 (the Year of the Fire Horse, 丙午年), greets the viewer. Ten relief works installed on a partition wall depict the innocent expressions of children, a motif the artist has returned to over time. Warm light gently seeps from behind them, quietly completing the “warmth” the exhibition sets out to hold.
As visitors step further inside and arrive before the mirror, they naturally catch sight of themselves, only to then notice a small hippo perched on a chair. As if inviting a photo together, the figure is a miniature of the “Hippo Family,” a recurring presence in the artist’s world.
In this booth, where the materiality of sculpture intersects with the warmth of light, visitors move beyond merely “looking” at sculpture to “experiencing” it as a sensibility that seeps into everyday life. In doing so, Space Tone proposes a quiet moment in which ‘warmth held in form’ gently lingers in each viewer’s memory.
